Show Our Local Heroes You Care
As we approach November 11th, it can be challenging to know how you can give back to our veterans. Many charities focus on everything from veteran’s assistance to more targeted organizations focused solely on Special Forces soldiers. To give back to those who are given so much to our country consider supporting our veterans this November. Here are a few places to start:
Disabled American Veterans
DAV is a nonprofit charitable organization that offers support and services to disabled veterans and their families. They help more than 1.2 million wounded veterans in each year, providing invaluable, life-enriching to those who served in our military. DAV offers disability assistance, VA pensions, job placement services, to name a few programs. Since the government does not fund them, donations and gifts allow the DAV to continue to provide these services.
Wounded Warrior Project
Another organization that helps those injured during their service careers is The Wounded Warrior Project. This organization provides rehabilitation services, and career counseling to wounded warriors and their families. There are many ways to contribute to the Wounded Warrior Project. You can: • Host A Supporter Event • Send Letters To An Injured Service Member • Give A Gift • Donate In Honor Of A Loved One Who Served In The Military • Organize An Employee Giving Drive
Put A Notice In Your Local Paper
Honor a loved one who has served in the military with a special note in your local newspaper. Many state and local papers allow readers to contribute tribute notices in a special Veterans Day section. Many even offer keepsake plaques moralizing the memory for many years to come. If you work for a publication that does not offer this program, click here to learn how you can create a Veterans Day program today. Readers appreciate getting these keepsakes and display them proudly in their homes.
Homes for Our Troops
Homes for Our Troops builds custom homes for severely injured veterans to help them rebuild their lives. Providing these homes to veterans gives them the freedom and space they need to focus on their recovery and family. Put A Notice In Your Local Paper
Furry Friends Organizations
Emotional support animals and service dogs can play a big part in the lives of veterans. Companies like Petco and Natural Balance offer products that raise money for the military service dog memorial, for example. These dogs save lives during military action and often the needed companions that help veterans heal with the return home.
